How to Read a Brain-Supplement Label

A label cannot tell you whether a product will work for you, but it can reveal whether the formula is transparent enough to evaluate.

1. Serving size

Confirm whether listed amounts apply to one capsule, multiple capsules or another serving.

2. Ingredient amounts

Named ingredients without meaningful amounts are difficult to compare with published research.

3. Claims

Separate general structure/function marketing from disease-treatment claims. Dietary supplements are not permitted to be marketed as treatments or cures for diseases.

4. Warnings and directions

Read them before buying, especially if you take medication or have a health condition.
